What is a Nurse Practitioner?
As a licensed professional health care provider, a Nurse Practitioner
(NP) is a Registered Nurse who has additional advanced education
and clinical training. This advanced education and licensure
allows them to expand their practice to provide routine medical
care within the area of their specialty training.
Nurse Practitioners bring with them many years of "hands-on"
clinical nursing care before they can go on for their additional
specialized study of allopathic medicine.
Thus, NP's approach every patient with 2 philosophies of care:
the patient-centered holistic model of nursing care, and the
problem-focused medical model.
Over 30 years of studies have shown that NP care is comparable
to physician care, with a high level of patient satisfaction.
A Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) is trained to care for health
conditions of any age, from prenatal care to childhood & adult
health concerns, usually on an out-patient (in the office) basis.
An Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) is trained to care for
more complex, often critically ill, hospitalized patients.

While answering a student question, Ken demonstrates the relaxed learning style of the BKP/PKP classes.
